Club CCD 2: October 2024

Welcome

Greetings and welcome to CLUB CCD 2! This is a continuation of Club CCD (https://clubccd.blogspot.com/), which has reached capacity for new photos, but which is still active. Please make all new posts here rather than at Club CCD. The main discussion site, where most people post, is CancanGroup.io (https://groups.io/g/CancanGroup). Please go there for daily text postings. These are sites for the discussion and appreciation of the Cancan in all its forms, from its genesis in Paris during La Belle Epoche, to its appearance in London, San Francisco and The Old West. Owned and operated by the online cancan community, CCD2 is open to everybody with a genuine interest in the World's Greatest Dance. Please note, however, that CCD2 is a G-Rated group, so please don't post anything objectionable. While the content of this site may be described as slightly 'risque,' this is not an adult community in any sense of the word, and anything deemed inappropriate will be deleted immediately.

HALLOWEEN SHOW 2023 / CAN CAN

Not sure what qualifies this as Halloween, other than the show it is in, but what the heck. Pantalettes, but with some nice frilly flashes.

The Black & White Minstrel Show

For a highly politically incorrect video clip from the 1960s you might take a look at the following video. Don't go there is you are offended by "blackface" actors.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJW1J3QTjLI

From Wikipedia:

"The Black and White Minstrel Show is a British light entertainment show on BBC prime-time television that ran from 1958 to 1978. The weekly variety show presented traditional American minstrel and country songs, as well as show tunes and music hall numbers, lavishly costumed and often presented with cast members in blackface. A popular stage show, based on the TV show with the same title, ran from 1962 to 1972 at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London. This was followed by tours of UK seaside resorts until 1989, and tours in Australia and New Zealand. From early in its history, and increasingly throughout its run, the show received criticism for its racist premise and content. "

Leslie Ann Warren

Saga of Sonora (1973)

Not the best cancan by far, but posted because of Ms. Warren's involvement. I don't recall seeing this before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-jUziwrVzo

Info: " TV special which starred Vince Edwards as a hero who must stop gold-greedy villains, Jill St. John and Zero Mostel, and prove his love to his girl Lesley Ann Warren. This was a TV special filled with music, comedy, and a western story about love, greed, and gold. Many famous faces at the time appeared in this show including Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Frankie Avalon, Cass Elliot, Carl Ballantine, George Gobel, Sam Jaffe and George Kirby."

Re: Оперетта «Весёлая Вдова»

I previously posted an imperfect copy of this video. Our longtime member and contributor Antoine DuChasse has successfully downloaded an excellent copy of it. Here is Antoine's work.

His message at Cancan Group was:

"Hi BB

I think that I have recreated a YT copy of this excellent routine...

...it certainly seems to work!

Thanks

Antoine"

Many thanks Antoine!

Can-Can Cabaret dancers, Washington D.C., National Gallery Of Art - Photos

Barynya - fondly remembered for their NYC Bastille Day dancing have not gone away they've just evolved and renamed themselves the NYC Can-Can Dancers. They performed recently in conjunction with a show at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC entitled "An Exhibition of Paris 1874". They appeared several times in different costumes. Above is a sampling of photos from their visit. More are located in the Club CCD Album.

Оперетта «Весёлая Вдова»

The YouTube version shown above suffers from the stop/start problem, so I'd suggest you go straight to the vk.com site to view it.

The Maxim's cancan scene from a 2020 Russian production of The Merry Widow. It's an excellent quality video, shot from close up, with great costuming. It is much more interesting than many Merry Widow videos, although the male dancers get in the way too much. The YouTube description calls it "the longest cancan in the history of The Merry Widow." Unfortunately the video appears to be truncated at the beginning and end, but what's there is very nice indeed. The operetta company appears to be "музыкальный театр" (Musical Theater).
